Pahan Tharuwa

The Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya operates with a mission to produce scientifically trained, socially responsible, compassionate doctors who would contribute to the body of knowledge in medicine in a meaningful manner and help serve the immediate and long term medical and social needs of our society. With that understanding, we, the Pahantharuwa Organizing Committee, have dedicated ourselves to help pave the way to accomplish this mighty endeavor by supporting the underprivileged undergraduates of the faculty in their educational aspirations while also providing the helping hand that the community needs to uplift themselves. Driven by a strong sense of helping those in need, our committee remains enthusiastic while working tirelessly to organize the annual Pahantharuwa musical show, a fundraising program which is a fruitful effort that blooms under the wing of Student’s Union of the Faculty of Medicine.

We have recognized that financial difficulties remain a challenge to certain undergraduates in our faculty and our committee wish to address this issue in a meaningful manner to ensure their promising future in the sphere of education. We believe that every student, no matter their background, is deserving of the opportunity to learn alongside each other in achieving their dreams. Our committee operates with the vision of providing a better learning environment for the students of the medical faculty.

Moreover, we extend this sense of community to the society through an effort to provide aid to underprivileged schools and uplift health services in rural community through donations and by organizing a health camp that meets the needs of the community.

The Pahntharuwa annual musical show brings together individuals, organizations and sponsors in this fundraising endeavor. Each ticket bought, every penny spent by our sponsors and all donations made in the name of Pahantharuwa is exclusively directed towards these efforts to uplift the community. Our organizing committee will remain transparent and accountable throughout this process to accomplish our shared vision of creating a better future for the community as a whole.
